Harmon Canyon Trail Development Project

In addition to general stewardship and maintenance at Harmon Canyon Preserve, Ventura Land Trust has been busy laying the groundwork to build a series of new trails. The Harmon Canyon Trail Development project, which we publicly outlined and solicited feedback on in 2022, is preparing to begin construction on approximately 4 miles of new trail starting in April 2024, with work continuing through Fall 2024. The new trails will be in the southern portion of the canyon, on the west side of the road.

Ventura Land Trust has spent the last 4 years ensuring that this new trail development is carried out as responsibly as possible. From measuring and tagging hundreds of oak trees, to monitoring wildlife through camera traps, to installing reptile and amphibian monitoring coverboards, to conducting bird surveys, to adopting comprehensive Best Management Practices that reduce spreading the seeds of invasive species, we are committed to implementing techniques we know can make a difference in reducing impacts on the biodiversity and ecological function of Harmon Canyon Preserve.

As you visit the preserve during construction, please stick to roads and trails that are open. Do not approach the construction crew or equipment. To stay up to date with the Harmon Canyon Trail Development Project, please sign up for the Preserve Info Newsletter at the bottom of the page.
