RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
VLT owns and actively stewards almost 4,000 acres of intact coastal sage scrub (CSS), riparian and oak woodlands, and riparian scrub vegetation communities .
Due to its very limited distribution and coincidence with development, CSS is one of the most imperiled ecosystems in the country, and our riparian and woodland systems are considered regionally sensitive.
Our preserves bridge mountain and coast, urban and wild, agriculture and successional ranchlands. We welcome collaboration and facilitation of independent research to help us learn more about these landscapes and how they work.
To date we have partnered with universities, agencies, non-profits, and museums investigating inquiries ranging from environmental toxicity in native bees, to bryophyte diversity, to contributions toward a statewide inventory of invertebrates.
Institutions interested in pursuing research questions on our properties can contact laura.pavliscak@venturalandtrust.org to learn more.
